Every member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution shares a unique connection to the founding of our nation. Membership is earned through documented lineal descent from a patriot who supported the cause of American independence during the American Revolution. These patriots came from every walk of life—soldiers, sailors, militiamen, civil servants, signers of loyalty oaths, providers of supplies, physicians, ministers, and many others whose service helped secure our nation’s freedom.
Because membership is based on proven genealogy, every DAR member has a documented lineage connecting her to one or more Revolutionary War patriots. These carefully researched family lines preserve the stories of those who answered the call for liberty and ensure that their sacrifices are remembered by future generations.
As we honor our Patriot Ancestors, we celebrate not only their courage and dedication but also the enduring legacy they have entrusted to us. Their commitment to the ideals of liberty, service, and patriotism continues to inspire the work of the DAR today.
